In 2010 I visited Houston, Texas, and did not miss the opportunity to go to the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston. From that day on it became one of my favorite museums. It is likely to have a bit of favoritism since it was the first museum I visited accompanied then by my girlfriend, today wife.
The museum is located in the City Museum District, a spectacular area filled with parks, sculptures, other museums, and the city's zoo. An hour by car from where we were staying, we didn't care, we went two days in a row.
Just to let you know, the Fine Arts Museum has two gallery buildings, a sculpture garden, a movie theater, two art schools, and two libraries, with two museum-houses within close proximity, one dedicated to North American decorative arts and the other to European. You can imagine that we spent the whole day in the museum surrounded by beautiful works of art, Egyptian sarcophagus, Islamic art sculptures, Roman columns, engravings, photographs, decorative and contemporary art. Surely I forget something.
But what I will not forget was the experience of being immersed in something that fascinates me. One of the few places where I have felt like a child in a toy store, and sharing that experience with someone I love made it unforgettable.
