Every Summer I go to my Nana’s house in Jaipur to spend a month of my summer vacation. Like every year for me there is not much to do as most of my cousins have schools and exams and are busy. I generally do not like it as mom gets busy with her cousins and shopping. But this year (April 2018) mom had plans for me and had promised to take me around Jaipur. As a young kid I have been to Jaipur often and seen a of of monuments in and around Jaipur but not seriously. And one such place of my admiration was the Albert Hall Museum. It’s a land mark and cannot be missed when in Jaipur. It’s a beautiful place with vast open spaces around it. People can often be seen feeding pigeons outside. It was built by a Rajput king but named after an English King to commemorate his visit to Jaipur. The place is a heritage and can be viewed at night also. In fact, it looks more beautiful at night with the laser lights done to highlight it. It’s a monument to behold. It’s the first museum of its kind in Rajasthan. The museum has a rich collection of artefacts including paintings, jewellery, carpets, ivory, stone, metal sculptures, and works in crystal. The collection includes coins from the Gupta, Kushan, Mughal and British. The museum houses an awesome collection of Artillery of olden times. The Armour and chained body suits of the famous Rajput king Maharana Pratap were quite heavy to look and I wondered how he wore it and rode a horse. I was surprised to see a whole section dedicated to Egyptian Culture. An Egyptian mummy is the main attraction of this museum. We spent close to three hours in the museum and I was quite awestruck. Since then my interest in the study of history too has grown. My mom often speaks of another museum Named City Palace which she often saw in her childhood. That is next on my next travel itinerary. ☺
