I have long dreamt of visiting an art gallery in India with ample time at disposal and a absorbing the are works like painting, lithographs and sculptures. I got this chance last week when I had spare time on a weekday. I decided a visit to Gallery of Modern art in Lyutian Delhi. In the beginning only the building itself was a feast to my eyes and was no less than a piece of art. I felt the peace and calm I had expected immediately on entering the big main exhibition area. At the very beginning only I was treated with some modern artworks by some masters and some not so old artist. My interest was more towards the sculptures as my Grand father was a sculptor and I’d grown up seeing his works and the process, which goes into making those wooden, and clay sculptures he’d done in his lifetime. Id made visit to another art gallery with him as a10 year old and felt a deep appreciation, which I saw then and remained inside me. Today at 22 the feeling had refreshed once again. One sculpture made in wood of a mother and child made by famous artist Ram Sutar was one I studied in detail. The feeling the artist must have had in depicting that must have been extraordinary bonding of mother with her child, which must have been driven, by his own bonding with his mother. The expression in form and details of expressing on face were testimony of that. I spent a lot of time studying other artists’ works. The trip became a memory of lifetime and decided to make regular visits to exhibition wherever I could find them at any time.
