A year ago, my sister was assigned by her school to go and visit the Qutub Minar and write a short note on it in her own words. Little did I know that this visit would turn out to be more fruitful for me than for her. When we entered the Qutub complex, the greenery and life in the place, it’s hustle and bustle and excitement, took me by surprise. To make our visit more beneficial, we hired a guide named Mr. Prakash Jain and he ended up being one of the highlights of the experience. As we walked up to the Minar, I couldn’t help but admire its beauty. The protruding walls, the exquisite Arabic inscriptions, the colours of the stone and its astounding height of 72 metres. Then Mr. Jain started telling us about the infamous monument’s history — how it was built by two powerful people, the contribution of the British to the minar and its subsequent removal and other dark incidents associated with the monument which is why entry inside it is prohibited today.
It was after hearing these stories that I could actually take in where I was standing — on a land that has been visited by powerful personalities throughout history. That day was truly life altering.
